Safer Internet Armenia 

is aimed at improving citizens' safety in relation to digital media, raising their awareness about safe Internet use, their digital rights, promoting the protection and education of children and teenagers using the Internet and new on-line technologies.

Safe.am informs about the benefits and hazards of ICT use through awareness raising campaigns and raising the level of digital literacy.

Our activities are oriented towards minors and adults, teachers, ISPs, content providers, law enforcement authorities, officials.  

Safe.Am web platform is built on http://saferinternet.nt.am. Safe.am is a joint project of Media Education Center and ISOC Armenia. Through the web page the visitors can access the Hotline.   The English verson of Safe.Am is a brief version of the Armenian one, it fully highlights only news, short description of on-line activities and related risks and hazards, dictionary.

 

Armenia joined Safer Internet pan-European initiative since 2009.   Activities have been coordinated by Media Education Center with support of Microsoft Corporation, ISOC Armenia, World Vision in 2009 and in 2010. Armenian Safer Internet Day Committee has been established.

Our activities have been aimed to empower citizens to use the Internet and mobile technologies safely and creatively. Our aim is to educate children and parents, youths and teachers to avoid risks while using digital and mobile technologies.

Media Education Center produced web resource with links to teaching materials on e-safety and social networking;

Internet Safety Guide for Teachers, Parents and Children;

Disseminated teaching materials on safe usage of the Internet and mobile technologies among school children, teachers and parents;

Announced competitions and encouraged children to prepare their own electronic materials;

Carried out information campaigns,

Media Education Center fully supported the pan-European communication campaigns in 2009 and 2010 (http://www.sidfair.org/web/armenia/home) and actively participated in delivering the key messages to the target group of teenagers.

We disseminated a CD version of the pan-European video clip “Block Bullying Online”.

Conducted surveys and polls;

Media Education Center analyzed more than 10 000 web-sites and created an Internet Safety Zone for parents and schools (collection of links to 3000 safe educational web-resources free of offensive and commercial content) to use in teaching and learning purposes.

Media Education Center and Public Radio of Armenia organize a regular 45-minute-radio program "Corner of Harry Potter" to highlight Internet related issues to general public and particularly to parents, teachers and teenagers.

Organized workshops for school teachers, children and parents;

Organized high level round tables, conferences and other media events, attended by officials, NGOs, media and industry management. Since February 2009 workshops and round tables of Media Education Center were attended by 350 participants.

In particular, our round tables have been attended by senior management of Public Radio of Armenia, PanARMENIAN.Net, Noyan Tapan Media Holding, ArmenTel/Beeline telecommunication company, iCon ISP, Synopsys Armenia, Enterprise Incubator Foundation, Union of IT Enterprises, Public Council of Armenia, National Center of Educational Technologies of the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Diaspora, CAPS/USAID, British Council, WB Armenian Office, World Vision Armenia, American University of Armenia, Bridge of Hope, municipality representatives and principals of secondary schools from Armenian capital and regions. Public Radio of Armenia, ARMENIA TV, Armenian Second TV Channel H-2, ALM TV, SHANT TV, PanARMENIAN.Net, Noyan Tapan Media Holding provided coverage of safer internet events in Armenia.
