Safer Internet Day 2011 Activities in Armenia
The online publication of the Armenian version of the Internet Literacy Handbook marked the beginning of 2011. The Council of Europe’s Internet Literacy Handbook, intended for parents, teachers, and young people, is a guide to making the most of the Internet while staying safe, avoiding risks, and protecting privacy on websites and social networks.
Within the framework of the Safer Internet 2011 programme, round-table discussions will be organized in the capital of Armenia as well as in the regions. During these events, young people and adults will debate privacy-related issues and watch thematic films.
Representatives of schools, libraries, local media, and NGOs are expected to participate. An Internet Literacy module will be introduced through several open lessons for young volunteers—university graduates—who will subsequently conduct simultaneous workshops in dozens of Armenian schools across the country.
Drawing and computer graphics competitions focusing on this year’s Safer Internet Day slogan, “The Internet is more than a game; it is your life,” will be announced for students aged 8 to 15 living in the capital and the regions of Armenia. Students aged 13 to 18 will be invited to create and submit video reels and to participate in quizzes.
Schoolchildren will also prepare and submit stories, video materials, or PowerPoint presentations reflecting on the positive and negative aspects of the Internet.Public discussions at several regional universities will conclude the programme, summarizing achievements of Safer Internet Armenia program and identifying existing needs.
