June 8, 2010 On June 8, 2010, the Media Education Center participated in a round-table discussion dedicated to Armenian-language content on Wikipedia. The event was 1organized by the Armenian Association for Academic Partnership and Support (ARMACAD) and held at the Youth Center in Yerevan. Administrators and authors of the free online encyclopedia shared their insights with an audience of students, teachers, and representatives of the scientific community. The Armenian Wikipedia, available since 2006 (http://hy.wikipedia.org), already contained more than 9,100 articles in Armenian at the time.

April 29 and 30, 2010, Third Edition of the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) organised by the  Council of Europe, the Swiss Federal Office of Communication, the Spanish Internet Governance Forum in Madrid. "Is it proportionate to cut access to the Internet for protecting copyright? eurodigShould Internet operators be liable for content published by their users? What role should Europe have in discussions concerning the regulation of the Internet across borders?" - these and other issues related to children’s use of social media, data protection, the emergence of cloud computing and the Internet in 2020 were disscussed. February 9 , 2010 Competition of drawings/posters focusing on this year’s Safer Internet Day slogan "Think before you post!". 5 - 8 year olds can enter the Safer Internet 1Day 2010 poster competition by making a picture on the theme "How do you see yourself and the internet? Is it a good, safe place to be?" Works are accepted until April 9.

February 12 – April 01, Dissemination of our new Internet Safety Guide for Teachers, Parents and Children and WV's "Keep the Children Safe Online" interactive CD among children and youth. The two resources teach that the Internet can be a great educational tool and a fun place for children and educate them about risks, negative content, their rights to privacy.

 

 

 

February 9, 2010 - Seminar “Safer Internet Day” with education and ICT stakeholders organized in the frame of the Safer Internet Day by Media Education Center in partnership with Microsoft Armenia, World Vision. January 26, 2010, 250 participants gathered at the Yerevan Secondary and High School named after Chekhov, located in the Armenian capital, to discuss children’s online 1behavior and related risks. The meeting marked the launch of month-long Safer Internet Day celebrations in Armenia, organized by Media Education Center. Parents, teachers, and NGO representatives took part in the meeting. The web-site contains sections on blogs, chat rooms, social networks, file-sharing and filtering and . Internet-related risks, such as cyber-bulling,fishing, farming, Internet fraud and identity theft. Links to the new web-site are placed on several school web-sites. The web-site highlights such issues as copyright and protection of private information. August 2007, Media Education and Media Literacy in Secondary Schools – Round Table. In August 2007, Armenia’s Media Education Center organized a round table discussion titled “Media Education and Media Literacy in Secondary Schools” at the Mkhitar Sebastatsy Educational Complex, an experimental and research union of the Ministry of Education and Science.

Adults and children spend an enormous amount of time watching television, which has become a primary source of information and a global arena for propaganda and advertising. Media no longer merely influence our culture—they actively shape it. Read more
